Eat Healthier With DIY Paleo Protein Bars

By Alice Matthews

The paleo way of living is increasing in popularity, and so is the demand for paleo-friendly protein bars. The problem is that these bars can get pricey, and they might not have the flavor choices you want.

If you find yourself in this situation, and you like spending time in the kitchen - why not bake your very own homemade protein bars? They might take time to bake, and they do not come in convenient single-serving packages, but with some practice and some air tight plastic bags, you can create your own nutritious snack bars that you can carry with you in the car, to the gym or while traveling.

If you've ever reviewed the labels for paleo bars, you most likely have seen a few similarities. There are usually less than 10 ingredients, and several contain nuts, coconut, protein powder and sometimes dried fruit.

These are all products that you can buy at your local grocery store, mix in a blender, lay out in a baking tray and cook for approximately 15 minutes. When they are done, you just take the baking dish out to cool, slice your creation into squares and store in air-tight containers that are ready to enjoy when you are.

The first couple of batches that you make might turn out some unexpected results as far as finding the taste and consistency you prefer. There are several complimentary recipes on the web that you can browse by conducting a fast search in a search engine.

When you find a dish that you like, you can get nuts, seeds and protein powder in bulk to save money. Not only will you be eating healthy - you will be saving money at the same time!

Nuts, of course, are a good protein source, however, some individuals include egg or protein powder to boost the quantity.

Nuts, shredded coconut and dried fruit will not stick by themselves. You want to add things such as nut butter, coconut oil with flax seed meal or honey to hold everything together.

Flavorings such as nutmeg or cinnamon can spice up your treats, along with a touch of salt. Get imaginative with the paleo items you include in your own recipes, as this can enhance the taste, increase the variety and make it easier to enjoy the paleolithic way of living.
